Today, as the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues throughout communities, we want you to know that we are here to support you with access to, and support for, our products. This page provides training and education resources for BD products for IV catheterization, vascular access and medication delivery. For any additional clinical information, please contact Medical Support Services at 1-800-555-7422.
- Hospitals should seek guidance on environmental cleaning from the CDC. The CDC has published the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Hospital Preparedness Assessment Tool with a section on Environmental Cleaning (Section 7), which instructs to use an EPA-registered hospital grade disinfectant.

No, BD™ Insertion and Dressing Change Kits do not contain N95 masks.
The BD™ Acute Dialysis Max Barrier Kit mask components meet or exceed the ASTM F2100 requirement and are classified as Level 3.
BD mask components currently provide ASTM Level 3 in many of our PICC, Midline, Acute Dialysis and Port Access insertion kits.

The physician will determine this based on the patient needs. The Power-Trialysis™ Short-Term Triple Lumen Dialysis Catheter is suitable for patients requiring other therapies concurrent with dialysis. The third lumen is completely independent from the two dialysis lumens and is indicated for power injection of contrast media, central venous pressure monitoring and can be used for blood draws and fluid or medication delivery without the need for a separate access.
The Power-Trialysis™ Catheter third lumen is indicated for intravenous therapy, power injection of contrast media, and central venous pressure monitoring. The distal lumen can also be accessed for blood draws and infusion of medications. The maximum recommended infusion rate is 5 mL/sec for power injection of contrast media.
Please note that catheter indication for power injection of contrast media implies the catheter’s ability to withstand the procedure, but it does not imply appropriateness of the procedure for a particular patient. A suitably trained clinician is responsible for evaluating the health status of a patient as it pertains to a power injection procedure.
No, central venous pressure monitoring should not be performed during hemodialysis, hemoperfusion or apheresis.
Central venous pressure monitoring is intended to be performed through the distal third (purple) lumen.
In this time of incredibly heightened exposure concerns, we recognize that clinicians may opt to extend the flushing times for their patients with implanted ports. We are aware that the American Society of Clinical Oncology has made the statement that, “there is evidence that flushing can occur at frequencies as long as every 12 weeks with no notable increase in adverse events or harms [sic].” Details and additional COVID-19 specific ASCO patient care information can be found here. Patients should work directly with their health care provider to determine the best course of action. Ultimately, the port should be flushed according to institutional protocol which may change in these critical times.

BD cannot provide direct advice to a patient regarding what hypodermic needle and syringe product to use for a medication injection. A patient must consult with their physician to determine the appropriate route of injection (Intramuscular, Subcutaneous or Intradermal) and the recommended needle length and gauge.
BD™ Syringes do not contain polyurethane. BD™ Disposable Syringes and Needles meet specific standards as part of their intended FDA 510K clearance. As a resource for our customers, BD has created both BD-2189 Disposable Single-Use Syringe Technical Data Sheet and BD-2344 Disposable Hypodermic Needle Technical Data Sheet. These technical data sheets highlight specific details with regards to BD hypodermic needles and syringes such as material composition, dimensions, sterilization methods, volumetric accuracy, pressure ratings, ISO standard information, etc.
